Te de Damas

Reporting in for the Te de Damas...

 

There were about 70 women at the tea which last about 2 1/2 hours.  The decorating committee did a great job---setting up 11 tables with glasses and tea cups.  A number of women in the church volunteer and bring thermoses of tea or coffee which are set up, one per table.  Other women brought food which was set up on paper plates in the kitchen and then passed to us.  There was also a peach juice and the cake that Brenda made.  She found some kind of wonderful frosting locally that was white, a sort of meringue, then wove dulce de leche through it.  That went over well, to say the least!

 

We began the tea (started at 5:00 p.m.---sort of!) with 2 games courtesy of Domi and Jenn.

One involved blowing bubbles w/ bubble gum--that was a kick, and naturally some of the younger gals won!  Then we played a game which had us 5 Americanos in different parts of the room, holding up one gift at a time and then Brenda would say, "If you have ---- on, run to Susan (Fran....etc.)" and off they went---they are a competitive group of ladies!

 

A daughter of one of the church ladies, who was 10 years old, did a traditional Paraguayan dance w/ a young man, in traditional dress.  What was really amazing though was that she then did a dance with 5 champagne bottles on top of her head---wow!  Naturally Joe wasn't there so we'll have to share pictures of that later on.  (Joe and Bob were watching the kiddos in another room!)

 

Thank you to all who prayed for me and my "tea talk"---I had sent some pictures to Brenda and she had them in power point, but when we got to the church it wasn't compatible w/ the computer there---however, she found some way to make it work and we were in business.  It really helped to have the pictures to back up my sharing.  My topic was generosity in friendships--Proverbs 11:25 was the verse Brenda had me spring from.  I focused on all the generosity of the friends that helped bring Sarah and James' wedding about and on the importance of friendships in our lives, ending with the picture of my (best ever!) Bible study group who were praying for me and for them all day long.  (Margaret, Sarah, Emily and Karen---thank you esp. for those last words of encouragement!)

 

So---we are coming home w/ some ideas for assisting the women's ministry at the San Lorenzo church.  (Think thermoses, glass dessert plats and trays, for instance.)
